This truck has the power! Power to perform the work (towing & haouling), and power to play. Cant believe a 6700 lb truck drives like a corvette. It is easy to increase the base 300hp to over 90 rwhp with as little as an $800 module and 5 minutes of time. Never knew that diesel motors were so easy to make horsepower. Smoth firm ride. Great highway ride. Gas milage is out of this world with 17-20 mpg depending on driving habits and type driving. GM has a winner! Ive no problems outside of a leak in the windshield and the inside passenger door lock coming loose. These were fixed under warranty without incident.

I bought this truck for towing power and interior space for the family. In both respects it has met the need superbly. I have not had any mechanical problems for 15000+ miles now. It starts in below zero weather regularly with no problem. Its really comfortable on the road. My 3 year old daughter prefers it to our new Grand Caravan. The 6.0 Litre engine tows my boat like its not even there.

  • a real solid performer - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

i really enjoy the 6.0 engine. it has plenty of power under any circumstance i have been able to throw at it. it has no knock. i am glad the ABS system is less touchy than in my 99 yukon. I am very impressed with the ride quality in this 3/4 ton, usually to have a large payload option you suffer in ride. not the case with this truck.

  • Great Engine - Duramax - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Bought used from brother. 6.6L Diesel Duramax engine. Never a problem. Lots and lots of power with this engine. Maintenance easy for a DIY. Ill never go back to a gasoline powered P/U. I consistantly get 21 - 22 MPG on the highway, and 18 in town, when running with out a load. Everything solid, reliable and predictable. Would buy again in a minute. Brother chose this color. Id never get navy blue. Requires lots of washing.

  • Transmission Eater! - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This is my work truck. Replaced a 98 K3500. I use this truck to pull heavy fifth wheel trailers. The duratec diesel engine is great for this. Loads of power w/ great gas mileage (20 mpg highway). I have the optional allison automatic transmission. The tranny is great for downshifting when pulling trailers. The tranny did shell out last year w/ 50,000 miles on the odometer. This cost $4500 to fix. After doing some research found this is a common problem on the 01 model. My fuel sending unit also went bad. Cost $800. Research also shows these trucks are prone to premature injector failure. I havent seen this yet though. Wish reliablity was better I guess.

  • Shame on GM - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Purchased brand new. Several problems have developed: 1. Infamous GM piston slap, started at 11,000 miles; very bad now at 18,000. GM will not acknowledge problem. 2. Steering column clunk/rattle, common in many of these GMs. 3. Box sits crooked, common in many of these GMs. 4. Transfer case is very noisy. 5. Dashboard lighting problems.

This is a very good truck for pulling something less than 12,000 pounds. It is a very good truck and I havent had any problems with it. It has 335 horse power with 385 pounds of torque.

One of the best trucks I have owned. We sometimes tow our 55 Chevy to shows and you never know it is back there. A lot of low end torque, great truck.

  • Hot Rod CHEVY TRUCK - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
    By -

The 2500HD is most powerful vehicle Ive ever owned. I ordered the 8.1 Vortec with an Allison 5 speed automatic transmission, 2WD, 3.73 rear end and still get a respectable 15.5 mpg. It pulls my 3,500 lb. bass boat like its not even there. This truck is extremely powerful and fun to drive. Ive owned at least a dozen pickup trucks and this is by far my favorite. I highly recomend this truck to anyone that wants a truck with hot rod performance.
